A Race Through the Maze « Thread Started on Dec 5, 2006, 6:19pm »
(This is a one-on-one match, Alina vs. Felix. No butting in, unless you're a spectator cheering for one or the other, which would be weird.)
"Hey. I was waiting." Felix Letcher turned to meet his opponent, fiery eyes flashing in the fading light. Soon the sun would set. The race was to begin as the last sliver of sunlight crawled from the tip of the mountain it now balanced precariously on. Away from his books, he looked friendly enough now. There was an almost earnest touch to his face. It was gone just as suddenly as it could be noticed, though, replaced by a practiced calmness. His armor was as beaten as ever. He hadn't bothered to polish anything. There was a certain pendant around his neck and a new pair of boots on his feet. The boots sported very small, showy white wings, one each on the outside of each heel. As he extended a coarse hand to shake Blackrose's own unoffered one, he smiled, tentatively. That was unusual. He hadn't intended to smile. At least he was going to have fun.

Alina smiled. "Sorry I had to get my stuff." she said grinning madly. In her hand was a long ash broom, decorative beads upon the handle and a red ribbon held the straws together. This of course was no ordinary broom, but a flying broom, a fast one at that. On her middle finger on the very hand holding the broom was a double banded silver ring with a large black diamond in the center. In her other hand was a deck of cards, a orante picture of a phoenix on the back of each card. She slipped the card deck into her pocket , next to a steel fan and shook the offered hand. "Lets get this race going!"

Felix turned back to the maze, not commenting on the broom. Knowing the challenges that the maze was supposed to present, simply flying over the hedges and stone walls would do no good. As he bowed stiffly to whatever spirits possessed the great puzzle, there was a grating, rumbling noise beneath their feet and the first granite wall that barred them from the maze slid open to create two separate doorways. He turned sharply to Alina, said, "No rules," and then turned and darted in the left opening.
